Most of us must have heard the tales of how CBD helped with numerous health conditions. A few years back, CBD was just an unknown substance.
But, now we know that CBD, also known as cannabidiol, is a naturally occurring substance extracted from the cannabis plant. It is known to manage psychological, neurological, cognitive and skin conditions.
And, while the CBD industry has soared into popularity, there's a new compound that could transform the CBD industry as we know it. CBN, short for cannabinol, is also a natural compound extracted from the cannabis plant. However, unlike CBD and THC, CBN is a byproduct extracted after oxygenation and decomposition of THC.
CBD vs THC vs CBN
While the research is still in its preliminary phases, many studies point out that CBD and CBN can work together to induce an entourage effect. The entourage effect is a theory that when a cannabinoid like CBD is consumed with another compound like CBN, one can reap additional benefits as it increases the potency of the product.
For those who don't know, THC is also a compound extracted from the cannabis plant. If consumed in higher quantities, it can make you high.
One thing that is the same about CBD, CBN and THC is that all three react with the body's endocannabinoid system (ECS).
Endocannabinoid System (ECS)
ECS is the human body's largest system responsible for regulating mood, sleeping patterns and eating patterns. Cannabidiol like CBD, CBN and THC reacts with the neuroreceptors of this system to increase its efficiency, but at different levels. While CBD cannot bind with any of the neuroreceptors, it provides health benefits but to some extent. THC, on the other, binds with the brain's CB1 receptor, causing the feeling of high. CBN does not bind like THC but reacts with these receptors quite well, making you feel calm and relaxed but without the high.
RESEARCHER'S TAKE ON CBN
Because research is still in its early phase, there's not much to prove. But based on the conclusions of preliminary investigations, CBN enhances the quality of sleep. Moreover, CBN can also be consumed for its anti-anxiety and anti-seizure properties.
AVAILABILITY OF CBN-INFUSED PRODUCTS
While the market is flushed with all kinds of CBD products like CBD oil, CBD gummies, CBD beauty, CBD capsules, CBN is not much available. As stated above, CBN is a byproduct. So, to extract CBN from the plant, the extraction and processing must be carried out on several cannabis plants just to attain a small amount of CBN.
But, with technology being stretched to a new horizon, new ways that are not only convenient but also time-effective have helped us to get our hands on this revolutionary compound.
